For nearly two decades, J. Sue Dyer was the executive director of the Saranac Lake Chamber of Commerce. During her tenure, she researched how New York was being advertised to the world. As a result she wanted the world to know that there was much more to the State than just the City and sky scrapers. As a result, she created and introduced a slogan for the village, "Saranac Lake: The Green Side of the Big Apple."
Upon returning to Saranac Lake in 2021, Sue's first goal was to revive the logo and the historic Willard Hanmer Guideboat & Canoe Classic that had occurred annually since it began in 1963 until 2012.
Along with her daughter and a group of volunteers, Sue brought the Hanmer race back in 2022 and ran it for 4 years. Due to health issues, Sue's son took over the Green Side of the Big Apple in 2026 and the running of their events.
